The Role of the Church and Knights

The church played a role in feudalism because the Pope was the highest power. Under the pope was the cardinal. The cardinal ruled over the king and the archbishops. The archbishops ruled over the bishops and the abbots and the king ruled over the lords and nobles. The lords/nobles and the bishop communicated regularly. The lords and nobles ruled over the knights, the bishop ruled over the local priests, and the abbot ruled over the monks and nuns. The local priests talked regularly to the knights. The knights ruled over the serfs and peasants. So the government and the church were intertwined.
