Travel to Amazing Antigua Guatemala
Welcome to Antigua Guatemala!
Meet Antigua, the most beautifully preserved Spanish-style colonial city in the American continent. Located 45-minutes away from Guatemala City, Antigua attracts thousands of visitors every year, from all over the world. Upon visiting, more than a few decide to call Antigua home and return to live here part-time, or even permanently. Here are a few reasons why...
Gorgeous Weather
Because of its elevated location, Antigua enjoys wonderful weather year-round. Temperatures are usually no higher than 75°F (23°C) and lows are rarely under 55°F (12°C). Antigua does have a rainy season, which runs from May to November, which contributes to its lush vegetation.
Safest City in Guatemala
Police presence is very visible here. Because Antigua Guatemala is such a draw for tourism, local government has a vested interest in keeping it safe for tourists and expats that live here. Very rarely does one feel uncomfortable walking the streets at night. It helps that Antigua has its own Tourism Police, in addition to Guatemala’s National Police.
Most Beautiful City in Central America
As a UNESCO Heritage Site, Antigua has been protected from overzealous investors. The local government has exercised good care to keep the city in the most pristine state possible. You won’t find a building higher than three stories here, which preserves magnificent views of surrounding volcanoes for everyone to enjoy. You won’t find gaudy neon signs either and loud music is well-regulated. In fact, honking a car horn inside the city is forbidden.
Great People
Antigua's locals are among the friendliest people you'll find in Central America. The town's cultural mix of Spanish descendants and Maya population has produced an interesting combination of religious and cultural traditions that survive to this day.
Antigua is Culturally Lively
There are plenty of events going on every week. Live music is easy to find. From religious processions, to free concerts, there’s something for everyone. It’s also a kid-friendly city and there are enough free activities on the weekends (puppet shows, movies, plays, etc) to keep the little ones entertained.
