Figurative Language

"My mother finally broke her concentration and turned to look at us, her eyes bulging as they fell on me."

"For the rest of the summer, I devoured the paper for any information about Max."

"We did not speak at all as we walked away from the hotel in the thickening darkness."

This is figurative language because the darkness is not an actual thing that is getting thicker, it just means it's getting darker.

This is figurative language because her concentration didn't actually break in half, and her eyes didn't literally fall on top of him.

This is figurative language because he didn't actually devour the paper, he just searched it.
