Commas were poor, weak little things, and people didn't always know how to use them correctly. Sure they could handle the job of keeping things together In a list, but combining sentences together was just too much for their small bodies.

Nevertheless, people would often hire commas and have them try to hold to sentences together. Poor little commas didn't know any better. They just wanted a job.

The force of two sentences pulling away at each other would always result in a dead comma.
