Jesus knew the hour had come. He got up from the evening meal. Taking a towel, put water into the basin and started to wash the feet of his disciples.

Therefore if I, The 'Lord' and the teacher washed your feet, you also should wash one another' s feet. Most truly I say to you a slave is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.

Jesus Christ desciples were arguing among themselves as to which was greater. Who would wash their feet? They did not have a servant to wash their feet.

It would have never have occurred to them to wash one another's feet. When Jesus Christ lord himself stooped himself to this lowly task of a servant, they were stunned into silence.
