the shirtwaist factory was sweatshop in new york, on a very dirty street . many got diseases from human waste. many immigrants worked here because that was the only job available. so some houses were slums because not a lot of money and in the shirtwaist factory and all the sweatshop employees only maybe got paid 1$ a hour. but today we know that we get paid a more.
