Joseph Stalin was the Premier of the Soviet Union throughout WWII. In August 1939, Stalin entered in to a non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany, but Germany later violated the agreement and launched a massive invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. Soviet forces managed to halt the Nazi incursion at the battles of Moscow and Stalingrad. Stalin oversaw the Red Army when it captured Berlin in May 1945, effectively ending the war in Europe for the Allies.
