Proctor
"Proctor was a farmer in his middle thirties. He need not have been a partisan of any faction in the town, but there is evidence to suggest that he had a sharp and biting way with hypocrites. He is a sinner, a sinner not only against the moral fashion of the time, but against his own vision of decent conduct".
"grasping his hand before he can release her: John-I am waitin’ for you every night. ": I may have looked up".
For proctor his description says he is a sinner and hypocrite. So in the quotes they transition because he says he didn't even say he liked or wanted Abigail but he really did. That's a false lie due to his sinning and cheating on his wife basically.
I chose tom to connect with proctor because their both hypocrites and sinners. Proctor in a way cheated with Abigail and that's a sin and tom cheated with his wife and lied a lot. Proctor told false lies too.
