-Asthma causes breathing difficulties due to inflammation of bronchi and bronchioles, this causes a restriction in the airflow into the alveoli.
-Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.
-Asthma affects people of all ages, races, and genders.
-Although a gene for asthma has not yet been specifically identified on a chromosome, the most promising site for investigation is on chromosome 5.
-Asthma can be inherited, but can also be developed from environmental stimuli (smoke and dust can trigger it).
-Asthma affects breathing and breathing affects homeostasis. Your blood doesn't get the necessary oxygen it needs to carry out life functions because oxygen becomes very limited.
-There is no cure, but you can control it with the use of inhalers.
