Slavery being the main cause of the war, ended because the north, who mainly opposed slavery, won the war.The Emancipation Proclamation and the Union’s victory in the war secured the freedom of slaves, but with a society plagued by Jim Crow Laws and segregation, freed slaves after the war were far from liberated. Slaves paid the price for their freedom as emancipation introduced new hardships, insecurities, and humiliation.
