People belonging to different social ranks wore clothes made from different fabrics.
Every person above the age of six (after the year 1571*) was required to wear a wool cap on Sundays and holidays.
Women of the upper class were restricted to £100 (about $167) a year for their clothing. (Keep in mind that about $8 a month in the late 1700s was the equivalent to about $1500 today.)
