Summary
Odysseus and his men encounter storms in their journey, so they stop on an island to wait them out. On the island, they find the sacred cows of Helios. Odysseus tells his men not to kill and eat the cows. A month goes by and the food runs out, but the storm still rages. Odysseus goes off alone to pray and sleep. While he is gone, one of his men leads a group to kill, sacrifice, and eat the cows. When Odysseus wakes up, he's angered, but the storms have cleared and they continue on their journey. Just as they leave the island, a huge storm breaks the ships right next to Scylla and Charybdis as punishment for killing the cows. Odysseus escapes and clings to a tree on one tiny island. Eventually,he falls into the water and rows past Charybdis, reaching the isle of Ogygia, where he meets Calypso.
