Origins
Buddhism is thought to have originated two and a half thousand years ago, with the life of Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha was born a prince in the land of Lumbini, which was once northern India but is now Nepal. He lived a very affluent life but noticed much of the suffering around him. At the age of twenty nine, Siddhartha retire to a life of seclusion and meditation, in order to find a solution to all affliction in the world. After six years he returned and began to tell others of his attained enlightenment.
