What about the continents?

The positions of the continents were not too different from today. However, there were some notable differences. For example, North and South America were not yet connected. India, as well, was still an island off the coast of Southeast Asia. Antarctica was not yet centered over the South Pole. Continental drift during the Tertiary, in some cases relatively rapid, resulted in the continents reaching their current positions by the end of the period. When these continents moved, it created several mountain ranges.
