Kalidasa was a classical Sanskrit writer, and the greatest Gupta poet and playwright.

Shakuntala

The epic of Shakutala tells a story of a king who marries the lovely orphan Shakutala. Under an evil spell, the king, Dushyanta, forgets his bride because he loses his wedding ring. Because of a twist of fate, Dushyanta recovers his, memory and is reunited with Shakutala.

He has written three plays and they all have been translated and sold in many different languages.
