Describe the popular trade items inside the Indian subcontinent.

Trade

Most regions of India were self-sufficient in staple foods like rice, wheat, barley, and millet, but not in items like iron, copper, salt, pepper, spices, condiments, and other crops that only grew in certain regions. Most of the Iron came from the Ganges Rive valley, copper from Deccan, salt from the coastal regions, and pepper from southern India.

What bodies of water were used to exchange trade items? What were some of the trade routes?

What special commodities were produced for the commercial market? (Indian Artisans)

Much of the cross-cultural trade came from voyages in the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea. Some of these trade routes include routes from East Asia to Southeast Asia, to South Asia, to the Middle East, and to East Africa.

Indian artisans were known for the manufacture of fine cotton textiles. During the postclassical times, there was a high demand for this, so the artisans built thriving local industries around the production of high-quality cotton.
