An input to a function: a variable that affects a functions result.

Ex:

A number that will be raised by a power

Ex: in 7^3, 7 is the base

A line that continually approaches a given curve but does not meet it at any finite distance.

Ex: exponential functions have a horizontal asymptote at y=0 because the values will never meet the y axis
