Genes

Genes: a unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.

Information is inherited from parents , referred to as chromosomes. Chromosomes are threadlike structures that come in 23 pairs (in humans) one member of each pair coming from each parent. different chromosomes contain different genes. The genes carry the characteristics of a person and determine things such as hair and eye colour. All individuals have the same set of genes, but the gene can have several varying forms making a person individual.
