People believe that what makes you better is the things you own. People have always believed that material wealth was better then the person they are.In the 1920's people all thought that what they wore and owned they all wanted to b rich and have nice things.During Gatsby mertal made a comment “I like your dress,” remarked Mrs. McKee, “I think it’s adorable.” ...“It’s just a crazy old thing,” she said. “I just slip it on sometimes when I don’t care what I look like.”(Fitzgerald 27).This is a poor person who has a very expensive dress on but she wants to act and be rich so she plays it off like it is nothing just so she can fit I'm with the rich people around them because in the 20's that's what people cared about the most. In the song I just want it all by kid ink he says "I-I-I just want it all Money and the cars" This makes it sound like things are what make people good and he just wants things to have and look good. Just like int the twenties wen stuff was what mattered. In the 20's people's priorities were the things they owned not the priorities in life.
