In order to promote nationalism and maintain high spirit in the home front during the Great War, governments of warring nations censored the media and used propaganda to control the nation and build hatred towards their enemies. With the intention to stir national unity, in many instances, the government portrayed their enemies under a negative light by dehumanizing them. The provocation and falsehood of the propagandas gave those supporting the war at home a reason to continue fighting.
