John Baldessari was initially a painter and began to use photography and text in the mid 1960s. He uses a pointing technique in his conceptual art, this leads the viewer into looking in a certain way. He paints bright colors over subjects in his photos which are usually black and white. Baldessari also rearranges objects and people in his photos to blend them.
Pointing- a technique Baldessari uses to to tell the viewer what to look at, and also how to make selections and comparisons when looking at his photos.
Conceptual art- the idea or concept presented by the artists is more important than the finished product. The term is questioned by some artsists who concider the term to be derived from contemporary art.
