Hekla

The summit of Hekla is 1491m which is approximately 4982ft. Hekla's last eruption was February 28, 2000, making it one of Iceland's most active volcanoes, having almost 20 eruptions since 874.

During the Middle Ages, Europeans called Hekla the "Gateway To Hell". This is because of the frequent eruptions and the fact that the vent is a huge crater, which resembles a dark tunnel.
