All about The Post-Impressionist Era
-the term "Post-Impressionism" was coined by Roger Fry as he prepared for an exhibition at Grafton Gallery in London in 1910.
-this era lasted from around the 1880s to the 1900s.
-The artists were very diverse, so there were barely any unifying characteristics between the artists.
-Symbolic and highly personal meanings were particularly important to Post-Impressionists such as Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh.
-most Post-Impressionists focused on abstract form and pattern in the application of paint to the surface of the canvas.
