Prevention:
Two ways to try to prevent Elephantiasis are to take DEC preventively which has shown to be effective. It has reduced the number of carrier insects in a particular area.
Avoiding mosquito bites with insecticides and repellents are helpful. Wearing protective clothing and sleeping with netting around your sleeping area will also assist in avoiding the Mosquitos. Much effort has been put into in clearing the breading sites ( stagnant water)of Mosquitos near people's homes in where this disease has been found. Before visiting Africa, Asia, China, and any other country that may be affected it is advised to consult your provider for current preventive treatments.
