Brain Freeze's amazing abilities were caused by a change to the pons which controls the functions of sleeping and dreaming. His evil powers include the ability to put his victims into a deep sleep and the power to instill fear in them with tormenting dreams. Weaknesses include a constant drowsiness and daydreaming from always being in the REM sleep stage.

Pons- some scientists believe that the pons plays a leading role in human sleep because it controls rapid eye movement (rem) sleep. Rem sleep is very important to every day rest, however, it would not be life threatening to lose.
