Wardens also known as ARPs were mostly women. ARPs organized black outs and provided shelters. ARPs had to have knowledge about the town they had to know where was safe and where people sheltered and lived.
The government recruited 200,000 ARPs. ARPs were given a whistle a gas mask and a tin hat. ARPs checked every bomb site and shelter to check citizens were alright. An ARPs first job was to direct people to shelters. There was an ARP every square mile.
