How are stars studied?
The most basic way to study a Star is to simply look at it with the naked eye. If the night is clear enough, you can see Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. In the 16th century, a Danish astronomer, Tycho Brahe, was able to measure the angular movement of planets to an accuracy of one 60th of a degree before the telescope was even invented.
The Stars are not just studied by telescopes, but also through infrared light, x-Ray, gamma ray, ultraviolet. Neutrino observation is another ,relative new , way to observe the universe is to look for neutrinos given off by nuclear reactions taking place in stars or supernovas. Neutrinos are elementary particles that have a minuscule mass and no charge. It is very hard to detect these particles because they can pass through ordinary matter. The iceCube neutrino observatory is currently being built at the South Pole. It has to be build deep underground for the background noise to be filtered out.
