- intake food from mouth
- taste buds allow you to taste
what food is like
- teeth break food down into bolus
- swallow, and bolus goes down pharynx, or throat, and enters esophagus
- saliva from sides of esophagus is released and helps food move to stomach
- takes about 10 seconds for bolus to reach the stomach
