This verse connects to my guiding question. Laoccon experience evil when the goddess sent surpents to strangle him, and his sons. He feared the surpents, but still stayed strong as he fought them off using his strength. He not only did this by choice but did this to put his sons in a better place, and putting him, and sons out of Harm.
