HeLa cells have come a long way since they were discovered in 1951 after lacks tragic death from cervix cancer. These cells created the polio vaccine, this vaccine saved so many lives in the 1950's as well as so many people today. It is a highly used vaccine today. These immortal cells have also helped in many scientific discoveries like gene mapping, IVF, and a big accomplishment of these cells was the role they played in chemotherapy. Which today many use to fight cancer and many live longer than without chemo.
