Though Mrs. lacks was already deceased when these cells were founded she is SOLEY responsible for the finding of them. HeLa cells helped with the polio vaccine in the 1950's which saved so many lives, as polio was a very big medical issue in this time frame. Lacks cells from her tumor were immortal, they multiplied into other cells. These multiplying cells also helped in the advancement of IVF, which so many couples use today if they are unable to have children. It has helped in gene mapping, chemotherapy, the research of AIDS, radiation and much more scientific research. Because of the tragic death of Henrietta Lacks, she saved so many other lives and created them for people around the world. She is truly the "mother of modern medicine".
