The Role of the Church

Barons

Barons were usually very powerful and wealthy. Regarded with a high social status, they were given fiefs directly from the King and were treated very well.

Bishops

The Bishop held great power in the clergy. Bishops ruled over dioceses, which included neighboring churches, priests, and monasteries. He was usually wealthy because he collected "tithes" from the people (taxes.)
