Succession

Primary succession:

Secondary succession:

Climax Community:

A gradual growth of the environment from bare rock.

Example-After a heavy rainfall, a landslide occurs in the chaparral biome.
Nothing can grow, because there isn't any soil.
But then lichen grows on bare rocks and breaks down the rocks
After the lichen dies soil is present and annual plants start to grow.
Then shrubs and grasses start to grow, also small trees.

Faster than primary secession because soil is already present and once was a home for living organisms.

Example-After a fire, grasses will grow first and than die.
Then woody evergreen shrubs will begin growIng.
Soon, annual plants will start growing.
After that the annual plants and Common Sagebrushes will grow.
Lastly small trees will start growing

A stable group of plants and animals that is the end result of the succession process

Example-After the small trees grow small animals will migrate in.
Soon the ecosystem will grow until it reaches climax community.
