Clash of the Titans

Before his death in 1924, Lenin announced that the leadership of the Bolshevik party shall be shared amongst two men. These men were Leon Trotsky and fellow Bolshevik Joseph Stalin. The two had a pre-existing rivalry before Lenin's death had occurred, and they were always against eachother. Though Trotsky was undoubtedly more successful and popular amongst citizens, Stalin had gained the support of many communists. This allowed him to make quick work of Trotsky once he gained power. Three years after Lenin's death in 1927 Stalin was successful in driving Trotsky out of the Soviet Union, and into exile. But this was not yet the end for the Ukrainian Marxist.

He would continue to spread propaganda against Stalin's tyrannical rule for years to come, and would also fund rebellious projects. Fed up with Trotsky's work, Stalin decided to send an assassin to eliminate him at his safe house in Mexico. Trotsky was found dead August 21, 1940 from being stabbed in the throat by Stalin's assassin.
