▪️Montesquieu was a French political thinker in the 1700s
▪️He voiced his idea for a Separation of Powers. In this idea he said a government should be separated into three branches, each with individual powers and responsibilities
▪️Under this form of government no branch has full power and control, theoretically preventing a dictatorship.
▪️This form of government was adopted into the constitution in Article 1, Section 7, Clause 3
This clause states that every decision made by Congress is to be approved by the President. If it is not approved, Congress may make a 2/3 vote to override the decision of the President. This ensures the two branches balance each other's power.
