-1886 American Federation of Labor (AFL) formed
-It was organized for skilled workers only
-They pushed for higher wages, better working conditions, and shorter hours, but they also assumed workers would be working for life
-AFL was not against monopolies or capitalism
Membership went past 250,000 in 1892 to more than 1 million in 1901, 1914 included 2 million members
