Oil on canvas
MOMA
Description: in this piece, we are shown the upper part of a girl's face. The colors used are dull and cool. The forehead takes up a good amount of work.
Analysis: As you can see, the colors used are very dull and worn. There's a hint of yellow tones on the forehead. There's a small headpiece, perhaps a flower, on her right temple. The image appears to have a bit of a texture to it. Emphasis is drawn toward the forehead, first by the size and then by the small hint of color. My interpretation of the rhythm starts at the eyes, and then travels up.
Interpretation: The mindset I get in from looking at this photo is somewhat dark. By using dull blues and grays, the painter is most likely hinting at depression. By putting some color in the forehead, I interpret that the artist has many thought going through her head, a mixture of both good and bad.
Judgement: I really like this piece. It displays. Human Emotion in a sort of contradicting way. Looking at this image, I can deduct that the painter is trying to relay that she is numb and feels no emotion. I find this piece interesting to look at, because my favorite color is gray and is featured a lot in this piece. Also, I enjoyed breaking down what's going on. It isn't too hard to tell that the painter is almost numb feeling.
