Violence was used against many African Americans. The tactics were used if an African American had simply stepped over their status, or a white thought they weren't showing enough respect.
An African American, if not beaten, could have their job taken away from them for not showing the upmost respect.
Lynching was the worst acts of violence used against the African Americans. It's when a mob murders an accused person without lawful trial. About 1,200 blacks were lynched in ten years.
Lynching mostly took place in the South, so many African Americans fled to the North to try an escape the horror and live a perfect life.
