-On 11 October 1899 the war broke out after the British rejected the Transvaal ultimatum.
-The Orange Free State joined the Transvaal in accordance with the alliance of 1897.
-Lord Herbert Kitchener, of the British, adopted a three-fold strategy to end the war.
