Significances
1. More civilians died in the Pacific war than military men.
2. The United Nations was created in 1945 in order to maintain peace and avoid any future conflicts such as those in the Pacific Theater of WWII.
3. Korea, which had been conquered by the Japanese, was divided up-the US controlling the South, and the USSr controlling the North-into two republics that eventually ran into conflict between each other.
4. The US moved into, and took control of, Japan. This was the first time Japan had been completely ruled by a foreign power, and its independence was only given back in 1951/1952.
5. Japan had lost much of the territory it gained after 1894. The Soviet Union occupied the Kurile islands and America took the Ryukyu Islands(they eventually gave it back in 1972).
