Significances
1. Europe was originally the center of political power across the entire world, but after WWII, all the great European Powers fell and the two world powers were the USSR and USA.
2. WWII led to the formation of the United Nations, in the interest of effective world organization to prevent future wars and structurally manage disputes between nations to maintain peace.
3. The Cold War began between the US and the USSR due to increasing tensions after WWII between the nations. Each feared the other of attacks and invasions; the USSR’s provocative actions along the eastern border of Europe and America’s fear of communist attacks leading to the threat of the atomic bomb led to mutual distrust. This escalated tensions that led to the Cold War.
4. The destruction of European political power made it possible for the rise of nationalism in many different ethnic groups around the world, such as the Jews, the Arabs, and the Chinese.
5. WWII brought an end to the Great Depression worldwide as industries were stimulated for the production of arms and resources to equip fighting forces.
