From this investigation, we were able to observe photosynthesis in living plants. We were also able to calculate the rate at which the photosynthesis was taking place. Our data supported our first hypothesis because we are familiar with the importance of carbon dioxide in this process. However, in the second part we learned that lettuce leaves have a higher rate of photosynthesis. If we were able to redo this lab, we could make sure all leaf disks sink to the bottom of the cup after doing the vacuum and before being placed under the light source. In the first part of our experiment, nine out of ten disks sunk. Also, we could test many more variables. Overall, from this lab we can better understand the the components and variables of photosynthesis.
