Chiang Kai-Shek

Chiang pretended to support the alliance with the communists.

Due to the Shanghai massacre the communist-nationalist alliance ceased to exist.

He struck against the communists and their supporters killing thousands in what's called the shanghai massacre.

In 1928 Chiang founded the new chinese republic at nanjing.

For three years after that he worked to unify china to become stronger as an empire.

Although Chiang knew Japan was a threat he saw the communists as more danger.
