After passing through phases of Cubism, Futurism & Metaphysical painting, he joined the surrealists in 1929. His paintings employed a meticulous academic technique contradicted by the unreal "dream" space in the back of one's mind.

Man Ray studied are at the National Academy of Design.
In 1922 Man Ray invented a new method of creating a photograph, which he called "rayograph." Ray created photographic images by placing objets directly on photosensitive paper.

Tanguy was known for his faintly sinister paintings. Before he painted, he lived in France and sketched on the job. Je joined the surrealist movement in 1925. He then moved to the United States in 1939 to continue his dreams.

He was a Belgian surrealist best know for his witty and thought provoking images. He gave new meaning to familiar things.
