Deccan Plateau
- it goes into the Indian Ocean
- lacks snow in some regions causing rivers to dry and no water to irrigate
- very arid and deserted

Coastal Plains
- separated from the Deccan by the Eastern and Western Ghatts
- have rivers and seasonal rains that give water to farmers
- in early times, people used sea for fishing and highways to travel
