The Feudal System

Feudalism was the loosely organized system of rule in which powerful local lords distributed their holdings to lesser lords in exchange for military services and loyalty. This system developed in medieval times because of the people's fear of invaders, such as the Vikings and Muslims. The people were protected by their lords.
