Historic places in Chile:
Polynesian settlers made landfall on Rapa Nui , also known as Easter Island, around 300 A.D., and for over a millennium, they had no contact with other cultures.
The islanders are most renowned for sculpting the moai, stone heads standing between six and 60 feet tall.
Most of the island can be traversed in four-wheel drive vehicles, but some sites are only accessible on horseback.
