The

• Also called the colon.
• It is a five to seven foot long muscular tube that connects the small intestine to the rectum.
• It's function is to move the waste to the rectum. (Peristalsis)
• The waste left over from the digestive process, passes through the colon by peristalsis, first in a liquid matter and then in solid form.
• Any remaining water is absorbed.
• Waste is stored in the sigmoid colon until emptied into the rectum, usually once or twice a day.
