The

• Also called the throat.
• The pharynx is the part of the digestive tract that receives the food from your mouth.
the esophagus carries the food to the stomach
• Swallowing takes place in the pharynx.
• The soft part of the roof of the mouth and tongue help push the food into the pharynx.
• Then it enters the esophagus
• The esophagus is a muscular tube branching off from the pharynx and behind the trachea to the stomach.
• Food is pushed into the esophagus and into the stomach peristalsis.
• Before the food enters the stomach there is the lower esophageal sphincter.
• The sphincter is like a door that lets food in but it doesnt let it out. Unless it’s not working properly which is a whole other story.
