What is the redshift of galaxies?

One of the evidence that the Big Bang Theory is the answer to how Earth formed is the redshift of galaxies. The redshift of galaxies is another way for saying that the Universe is most likely expanding. Some scientists think that back then, everything must have been squished together into a single dot, but when there was the Big Bang, the rapid eruption cause them to expand.
